The Policy Support Branch (PSB) has been established and a Joint Secretary (Policy Support) under LGD has been posted in December 2017. According to the organogram of the PSB, there are three sections; 1st one is Policy Support-1: Sector Coordination, (ii) Policy Support-2: Policy preparation and implementation, Policy Support-3: Capacity Building, Training & Policy Research. The main functions of the Policy Support Branch (PSB) are; (i) Coordination of WSS sector, Monitoring & Evaluation (ii) Policy review, Policy preparation, modification, updating and monitoring of implementation in WSS sector (iii) Assist to the different government and autonomous institutions like; LGED, DPHE, Paurashava, City Corporations and WASAs in preparation and implementation of Policy and Strategies for water supply and improved sanitation (iv) Assist in capacity building of LGIs and WASAs on national water supply and improved sanitation (v) Research activities on implementation of policy related activities implementation.

The specific objectives of the Policy Support Branch (PSB), LGD are;

• Facilitate development, implementation of upstream policy for equitable WASH service provision and institutional reforms in addition to capacity building of the LGIs on planning, implementation and monitoring WASH services with attention to safeguarding water availability and water quality.

• Support process of incremental change towards sound policy compliance as well as capacity development in the sector.

• Engagement with sector stakeholders for strengthening the enabling environment for WASH and strengthen the policy review, development and monitoring function in government.

• Support implementation of the Sector Development Plan, policy review, critical analysis, drafting and updating of policies, strategies, guidelines, planning instruments, rules and regulations etc.

•Commission action research on policy and strategies implementation.

•Facilitate policy dialogue with key stakeholders, learning generation and identification of best practices for replication and up scaling, monitoring policy implementation etc.
